BIM support for project management consultancies
Providing trusted BIM support for project management consultants as and when required
Project management consultancies are often asked to deal with BIM, asset data, COBie, EIRs and digital handover, even when they do not have specialist BIM or information management support in-house.
Lynefield works alongside project management teams to provide practical client-side BIM and information management support. We help you support your client, reduce delivery risk and improve the quality of project information before it becomes a handover problem.
How we support project management consultancies
Project managers usually contact us when a project needs more specialist information management support, but the team does not need a full-time BIM consultant.
This can include situations where:
- The client has BIM requirements but is not clear what they actually need
- An EIR has been issued but needs reviewing or making project-specific
- The project team is producing models, COBie or asset data but nobody is properly checking it
- Handover is approaching and the information is incomplete, unclear or not ready for operational use
- The PM team needs specialist BIM input for a bid, appointment or live project
- The client wants better control over project information but does not know where to start
How we support your team
Lynefield can provide flexible support at different stages of a project, from early brief development through to handover.
Our support can include:
- Reviewing or developing Exchange Information Requirements
- Reviewing BIM Execution Plans, MIDPs and information delivery plans
- Checking model, COBie and asset data outputs during delivery
- Supporting common data environment and information workflow reviews
- Helping align project information with estates, CAFM and asset management needs
- Supporting structured digital handover
- Providing plain-language advice and reporting for clients and project teams
Support without building an in-house BIM team, not every project management consultancy needs a permanent BIM team.
For many smaller PM firms, it makes more sense to bring in specialist support when a project needs it. This gives your client access to BIM and information management expertise without increasing your fixed overheads or stretching your internal team.
- We can support your service quietly in the background or work directly with your client as part of your wider project team.
- We work alongside project managers, Lynefield does not replace the project manager.
- Our role is to strengthen your project management service by dealing with the BIM and information management issues that can otherwise become difficult to manage late in the project.
That means clearer requirements, better checking during delivery and more useful information at handover.
Why this matters
Poorly managed project information can create problems long after construction is complete.
Asset data may not match the client’s CAFM system. COBie may be produced but never properly checked. Models may be delivered without a clear plan for use. Information may be scattered across drawings, spreadsheets, folders and O&M documents.
By involving specialist support earlier, project managers can help clients avoid these problems before they become expensive, frustrating or difficult to fix.
