Client Information Requirements
Helping clients define what information is needed, how it should be delivered and what good looks like
Clients cannot afford to leave information requirements to the supply chain. The information developed during a project will shape how the building is operated for years afterwards, so the client needs to define what is required, how it should be delivered and what good looks like.
If that control is missing, the risk is simple: a lot of information may be produced, but not the information the client actually needs.

Our Approach
Key client documents
- Organisational information requirements
This is the starting point. It sets out the information the organisation needs to manage its estate properly and support wider business decisions based on findings from a properly conducted Strategic Review. In simple terms, this is the foundation of the client’s BIM strategy because it explains why information is needed in the first place. - Exchange information requirements
This sets out what information the client wants to receive on the project, when it is needed and what it should include. It gives the project team a clear brief for information delivery. - Project information protocol
This makes sure information management requirements are built into appointments and contracts, so they are treated as part of project delivery rather than just guidance. - Project information standard
This sets the rules for how project information should be named, structured and presented so everyone is working in a consistent way. - Project information production methods and procedures
This explains how information will be produced, checked, approved and shared during the project. It is the practical workflow behind the requirements.
If clients want information that supports operation, compliance and long term asset management, they need to define it clearly from the start. Otherwise they risk receiving a lot of data, but not the information they actually need
Our Approach
- Strategic review and gap analysis of current information management approach
- Workshops with key stakeholders to understand information needs and priorities
- Definition of what information is needed, when, in what format and for which systems
- Development of client information requirements and supporting documents
- Regular review workshops to refine and agree the content
- Final document set aligned with the client’s operational and project needs ready for live or future projects
